Author Guidelines

STEP 1: Find the appropriate journal

Submitting a manuscript to a suitable journal is very important in order to avoid rejection by the editors without peer-review. Therefore, before deciding to submit

• Check that your article’s content is consistent with the aim and scope of the journal.
• Review the ethical guidelines, author guidelines, and submission checklist to be sure that the manuscript is ready for submission.

STEP 2: Refer the Authors’ Guidelines

All journals from Engineered Science Publisher have general guidelines for manuscript preparation and accept the articles of the following types, each with its own format.

Full Papers

Full Papers have no limit on the word count except the abstract that should not exceed the word limit of 200 words. However, authors should write the content concisely according the journal standards. The structure of the full paper is explained below.

Communication/ Letters

Communication/ Letters are brief research reports whose length should not exceed 2000 words which includes title page, authors and affiliations, abstract, keywords, text, Table and figure captions, acknowledgments, etc. The maximum number of figures and table combinedly should not exceed five. The abstract that should not exceed the word limit of 100 words. The length of the manuscript submitted as the letters should not exceed the above-mentioned limit, otherwise it will be rejected.

Review Articles

Review Articles (Authoritative and Comprehensive) should provide a comprehensive and updated account on a contemporary research topic. There is no limit in the length of the review articles. The abstract should not exceed the word limit of 250 words.

Personal Accounts

Personal Accounts are personalized review articles that provide readers with a broad and critical overview of a topic of high interest in any area of related to scope of the journals. They do not contain the experimental details normally associated with a Full Paper (i.e., no Results and Discussion, no Experimental Section), though some new data may be included within the framework of the review. Articles should be written from a personal perspective that highlights the author′s own contributions to the area while describing the successes and/or failures that led to developments in the field. Unsolved problems and possible developments should also be discussed where appropriate. Personal accounts should be divided into numbered sections. Cross-references in the text should also use these section numbers. Personal account should have abstract of not more than 150 words, which should not be a mere summary but rather should arouse the readers′ interest. The Introduction should primarily introduce the nonspecialist to the subject in as clear a way as possible. The article should conclude with a Summary and Outlook, in which the achievements and new challenges in the field are presented succinctly. In addition, biographical sketches (up to 70 words) and portrait-quality photographs of the authors should also be submitted. Overall, a personal account should not be of more than 50 pages (double space), including footnotes, literature citations, tables, and legends. Longer articles are permissible if justified by the subject area. An entry for the graphical Table of Contents should also be included, with a text of up to 20 words and a suitable graphic (formula or part of figure).

“Review articles” and “Personal accounts” are usually sought by the Editors, and authors are encouraged to contact the Editor-in-Chief before the submission of such types of articles.

Corrections and Comments

Authors may request to make correction and readers may request/comment on the published papers. The corrections and comments should be communicated with Journal co-ordinator. The final decision for this correction and comment will be subject to approval by the Editors, who will evaluate the significance of the change on the accuracy of scientific statements, on funding information, or on metadata (such as an author’s name). Possible input from experts could be consulted. Please note that Corrections and Comments should only address issues that were known at the time of publication. They should not update information that changes following publication, such as author contact information or publication of references.

Review Procedure for a Comment

Comments are generally processed according to the following procedure.

(1) The Comment is sent to the authors of the criticized work for their reaction. The authors of the object article are not asked to review the Comment as anonymous referees. Rather, they are asked to provide a written opinion on the Comment that is suitable for transmission to the Comment’s authors. Authors of the object paper may recommend that the manuscript be accepted, be accepted after revision, or be rejected. They may also submit a Reply for simultaneous consideration with the Comment.

(2) After suitable exchanges between the involved parties, the Comment (and Reply, if any) and relevant correspondence are sent to at least one uninvolved expert for anonymous review. If the referee recommends acceptance, and the authors of the object paper have not already submitted a Reply, these authors are given the opportunity to submit a Reply to the Comment. The Reply will also be reviewed, usually by the same uninvolved expert, but is not guaranteed acceptance for publication. If the Comment meets our criteria, it will be published whether or not a Reply is published.

(3) When both the Comment and Reply are accepted for publication, the authors of the Comment are sent a copy of the Reply for their information, but they should not alter the Comment unless requested to do so by the editors. The Comment and Reply are published in the same issue of the journal, with the Reply immediately following the Comment.

To be publishable, Comments and Replies must be of interest to our readers and free of detectable errors. If a Comment meets our criteria it will be published whether a Reply is published or not. The editors will not excessively delay the publication of a suitable Comment because of the lack of an adequate Reply. If an article generates several similar Comments, the editors may decide to publish only a subset of the Comments received.

Submission Checklist

Using the below checklist, authors can ensure that all the necessary details and items are available in order to avoid delays in the further processing of their manuscript.

STEP 3: Formatting the manuscript for submission

Once the manuscripts are ready for submission, it can be submitted through our online submission system. Engineered Science publisher provides online based system for submission and peer-review processes that guarantee the safe submission and rapid assessment.

Structure of the manuscript

The following file formats are acceptable; .doc, docx, .rtf, .pdf and .tex. (*.pdf files will be acceptable only for initial submission. The revised manuscript cannot be accepted in .pdf format). The layout of the manuscript should be set up on an 8.5” X 11” (21.6 X 28 cm or US letter) pages with sufficient margins.

Manuscript must be arranged in the following order: Title page [that includes title of the manuscript, author name(s) and affiliation(s)], abstract, text, statement for conflict of interest, acknowledgments, and references. Figures and Tables must be embedded in appropriate place in within the manuscript for easy reference of the reviewers. Additionally, please upload separate figure files.

Title

Title should clearly present a brief information about the content of the manuscript and emphasize the importance of the work. Avoid abbreviations and formula.

Author name(s) and Affiliation(s)

Include the names of all persons who have contributed significantly to the manuscript. At least one of the authors must be assigned as the corresponding author, to whom the communication on the manuscript should be directed. To expedite indexing and retrieval of authors and for the unique identification, use first names, initials, and last names (e.g., Robert J. Brown) or first initials, second names, and last names (e.g., J. Robert Brown).

Abstract The abstract should be a single paragraph summarizing the important points of the article. It shouldn't just be a summary; it should interest readers. The size of the abstract varies with each article types. No references are cited in the abstract.

Keywords

Authors should provide to five keywords. Avoid abbreviations and formula.

Text

The main content of the text usually includes Introduction, methods and materials, Results and discussion and conclusion. Headings and subheadings are permitted. Use Arabic numerals for numbering. The subsections should be numbered as 1.1, 1.2, etc., Introduction should justify the purpose of the work and provide an adequate background, avoiding a detailed literature survey or a summary of the results.

Figures

Figure will be located at the top or bottom of the text following their first citation in the text during production (unless they are equations, which appear in the flow of the text). They can be single column or double column as appropriate and require appropriate captions. Text is not wrapped around any of the graphics. When submitting figure files, please be sure to adhere to the journal's standards. All figure files must have a resolution of 300 PPI (pixels per inch) or they will be sent back to you for preliminary edits without review.

Tables

Table will be located at the top or bottom of the column following their first citation in the text during production (unless they are equations, which appear in the flow of the text). They can be single column or double column as appropriate and require appropriate captions. Text is not wrapped around any of the graphics. Tables should be submitted in editable format and not as image.

Acknowledgements

Acknowledgement should be brief information and not be a demonstration or effusive comments. The funding agencies can be acknowledged by providing the grant details. Medical writers, proofreaders, advice from colleagues, editors, Instrumentation facilities, technical assistance, etc. can be acknowledged for their assistance.

Statement for Conflict of Interest

Conflict of interest statement is required for all submitted manuscripts. If no conflicts exist, please state that 'There are no conflicts to declare' under a Conflicts of interest heading as the last section before the reference section. For more details, refer to the below link.

References

Make sure that each reference cited in the text is also included in the list of references and vice versa. The use of unpublished results and personal communications in the reference list is not recommended but may be cited in the text. If these references are entered in the list of references, they should adhere to the standard reference style of the journal and consist of the "unpublished results" or "personal communications" as a replacement for the publication date. References cited as "in press" indicate that those references have been accepted for publication.

References should appear in the following formats.

Additional information files/information

Graphical Abstract/Table of Content

It is a simple pictorial representation of the article that should graph the readers’ attention. Prefer to use color. The maximum size of the graphical abstract limits to 4 cm (Height) X 10 cm (Width) at a better resolution (above 300 dpi).

Innovative Description

Innovative description should highlight the uniqueness and key findings of the work. The Innovative description should not contain more than 20 words.

Cover letter

A cover letter must be submitted with each manuscript that explains the uniqueness, importance, and suitability of the work to the journal. The cover letter will be sent to the reviewers. Cover letter needs to be addressed to the relevant editor. While writing the cover letter make sure that the journal name is mentioned correctly. Do not repeat the abstract/introduction. Do not suggest the reviewers as the details should be provided in the submission system. Cover letter may upload as separate file or may be type or paste in the submission system.

Supplementary information and videos

Detailed data and discussions that are crucial to professional readers can be submitted as supporting information along wit the manuscript. The supplementary files are also subject to peer-review process and will be made available on the website along with the manuscript. Authors are also encouraged to submit videos or animated multimedia explain the experimental procedure, mechanism, etc. Keep the size of multimedia files less than 10 MB so that readers can download and view them.

Crystallographic Information Files (CIF)

Crystallographic information files must be provided as supporting information. Journals will also accept tables of structure factors and these should also be provided as supporting information.

Before submitting, authors are encouraged to check their CIF using the free Check CIF service provided by the International Union of Crystallography (http://checkcif.iucr.org/). It is not necessary to submit the CIF data validation reports along with the manuscript, but the copies should be kept in case a reviewer or editor has a query about the data.

Equations should be submitted in editable format and not as image. All the equations may be punctuated and aligned as separate line and numbered on their right.  Authors may use “x” rather than a centre dot, apart from scalar product of the vectors. “exp” may be used for complicated exponents. “Solidus (/)” may be used for the equations that are in-line with the text and the built-up fractions should be avoided in running text so that clarity would not be jeopardized.

Notations should be clear and consistent with standard usage.

Footnotes should not be included within the text. It can be place at the bottom of the page or in the list of references. Use (a), (b), (c), and so on to the bylines. Footnotes in the table should be specified using lowercase Roman letters and given at the end of the table.

Permissions

Authors should obtain permission from the copyright owner if they wish to incorporate tables, figures, tables, or part of text that have already been published. Permission should be obtained for both the print and online format and to provide that such permission has been granted when submitting their articles. Any data/information that is included in the submitted article without the copyright evidence will be presumed to create by the authors.

Human & animal welfare
When a study involves the use of live animal subjects, authors should adhere to the ‘Animal Research: Reporting In Vivo Experiments’ (ARRIVE) 2.0 guidelines. When a study involves the use of human subjects, authors should adhere to the general principles set out in the Declaration of Helsinki. Authors must include in the 'methods/experimental' section of the manuscript a statement that all experiments were performed in compliance with the relevant guidelines. The statement must name the institutional/local ethics committee that has approved the study, and where possible, the approval or case number should be provided. Details of all guidelines followed should be provided. A statement regarding informed consent is required for all studies involving human subjects. Reviewers may be asked to comment specifically on any cases in which concerns arise.

STEP 4: Submission of the Manuscript

Engineered Science publisher provides web-based submission system. All the required documents, forms and information should be submitted Engineered Science publisher’s online submission system. Submission of hardcopies are not accepted.

To begin submission, the Corresponding Author (or a person who will handle the submission and peer review process on behalf of the corresponding author) must sign up on the Engineered Science Web site.

After registering with the Engineered Science submission system, authors can submit their manuscript to any journal to the Engineered Science publisher. The submission system ensures the security of all the digitally submitted manuscripts. The same security mechanism is used during peer review, allowing access only to editors and reviewers assigned to a certain manuscript.

Guidelines for registration and navigation of the submission process are provided in the submission system.

As the final step of the submission process,authors will view the PDF version of their submission created by our submission. Author may inspect the PDF for the correctness the details and content before the formal submission of their manuscript. Modifications are not allowed after submission of the manuscript to the journal.

Reviewer will receive the PDF version of the manuscript files from the editor for the peer-review process.

Revisions requested by the editors also need to be submitted through our Web based submission system.

 STEP 5: Peer Review

Upon successful submission of the manuscript, the corresponding author will receive information about the peer review process via email from our submission system. The journals from Engineered Science publisher practice a single-blind review process. Initially, the suitability of the submitted manuscript with the aim and scope of the journal (i.e., journal scope) will be evaluated by the editor. If the manuscript is deemed suitable, then it will be sent out for peer review. The decision will be made upon receiving comments from two independent reviewers in the respective field. If necessary, the editor will request revisions and required forms such as the Journal Publishing Agreement. Editor’s decision is final on the acceptance or rejection of the submitted manuscript. Authors should note that the editorial decisions are based on various viewpoints. Reviewers' recommendation is considered very serious. The editor will accelerate the process of all other reviews to ensure timely decisions. During the review process, the authors are not allowed to see the reviewers' comments directly and respond. The authors can only respond after receiving the editor's decision.

STEP 6: Post Acceptance

If the article is accepted for its publication and the corresponding author has agreed that the article can be published as a "just accepted" manuscript, the peer-reviewed but unedited article is usually available as a PDF file on the website of the respective journal.

Online Proof Correction

Engineered science publisher provide online proof correction facility for the accepted manuscript. The environment of the online proof correction is same as that of the Microsoft word. Authors can edit the text and tables, replace the figures, enter comments and answer the questions from the proof editor.  The online proof correction system offers rapid and error-free process during the final production of the manuscript for its publication.

Upon acceptance of the article, corresponding author will receive the link of online proof correction system through email along with the instructions. Authors need to submit their corrections within the stipulated time (48-72 hours) for its quick publication. If no response is received from the corresponding author, the Engineered Science publisher may proceed with the production process. (Authors can also prefer to upload the PDF files with the annotations and comments).

Publication charges and Subscription

At present, journals from Engineered Science Publisher are fully Gold Open Access. Gold Open Access means that the final published version of the article (or version of Record) is permanently and freely available online for anyone, anywhere to read. The articles accepted for publication will be charged a one-time Article processing fee (APC). Engineered Science publisher covers cost related to publishing services such as administration, professional processing of manuscript before and after acceptance of the articles. After acceptance, APC will be charged.  Engineered Science Publisher’s APC pricing for each journal depends on its maturity and community support. All articles published in Engineered Science (ES) Journals are made freely and permanently available online immediately upon publication, without subscription charges or registration barriers. Everyone is able to download, copy, and share gold open-access articles. Article transfer service

If the editor feels that the submitted article is more suitable to one of the other journals than the journal to which the article is submitted, then the editor may recommend the authors to consider transferring the article to a more suitable journal. If the authors agree, the article will be transferred to the journal suggested by the editor automatically with no need to reformat. Please note that the article will be reviewed again by the new journal.
