Manganese oxides are considerable promising electrode materials for the applications in supercapacitors and batteries, due to its several oxidation states and environmental friendliness nature. In this review article, we present the applications of manganese oxide (Mn3O4) thin films in energy storage devices including supercapacitors and lithium-ion / sodium ion batteries during the last two decades. Numerous research works have been reviewed herein which shows enhanced electrochemical performance of the Mn3O4 based electrode materials. In addition to this, the key challenges and further development and opportunity path toward the Mn3O4 based electrode materials for high performance supercapacitors (SCs) and batteries are discussed here.
